The Beattie-Powers Place Online Dance Competition

Regarding the Competition: 
All entries must be no longer than 2 1/2 minutes in length and acknowledge both the music and the choreographer associated with the entry. 
This is an online contest so video will be submitted online here! Submissions to the contest will be accepted from August 27th through October 1st at midnight; Online voting runs from the 1st through October 12th at noon, the day of The Hudson Valley Dance Festival gala. 
 
Winners will be recognized at The Hudson Valley Dance Festival gala performance that night.    
 
The competition judges will give out $100 cash awards, as well as other prizes, for:      
> best overall dance performance      
> best choreography      
> dance submission with the most votes 
Certificates of Merit will also be issued, acknowledging work from specific dance styles.

So you think you can dance....?  Well now's your chance to prove it!

The Friends of Beattie-Powers, a non-profit group dedicated to preserving historic Beattie-Powers Place in Catskill, NY as a cultural resource for the community, invites you to be participate in an online dance competition. It's offered in support of the new Hudson Valley Dance Festival, (#HVdance), produced by and benefitting Dancers Responding to AIDS (DRA). Proceeds from the Beattie-Powers Online Dance Competition will be used to support the work of both organizations. All qualifying submissions will be adjudicated by an esteemed panel of judges, including:  

  • Duke Dang -- Duke is the General Manager, Works & Process at the Guggenheim  Museum.   
  • Phyllis Lamhut -- A the recipient of the 2013 American Dance Festival Distinguished Teaching Award, Phyllis is also on the faculty of NYU dance.   
  • Robert LuPone -- A Julliard trained dancer  and member of The Actors Studio who's performed on Broadway, in film and on television.  "Bobby" is the artistic director of MCC Theater in New York City.  
  • Marcus McGregor -- For 20 years Marcus danced professionally with 2 renowned Ballet Companies, Dance Theatre of Harlem and Feld Ballet and countless regional companies as a guest artist. 
  • Richard Philp -- Writer, historian and Long-time editor of 'Dance Magazine,' one of the most important dance publications in the world.
