Let us tell answer some things that we get asked a lot.

Is this just SDR with some free software?

At its core, yes, this is just an embedded computer with an SDR, an antenna, and some open source software. But, we have designed an integrated out of the box solution with a custom case, custom hardware, and custom software to make the experience smooth and flawless from end to end.

Can't I just build this myself?

Absolutely! You could go use any number of existing embedded computer solutions out there on the net right now, using a Raspberry Pi, your laptop, etc. You could even follow our recipe and use our firmware! You would buy a FlightBox if you want a simplified and complete experience.

I'm not technical. Is FlightBox for me?

Yes, you don't need to know anything about computers or Linux or SDR to be able to enjoy your FlightBox. You can use your mobile phone or a web browser to view all of the nearby aircraft information and change your settings. We made it easy for you!

I am very technical. Is FlightBox for me?

We think so, yes. We expose all levels of the hardware and software so that you can tinker and made changes. We based all of the third-party pieces on opensource, and have even opensourced our glue code. You can contribute! You can also customize Linux or add additional functionality.

What is FlightBox's strongest feature?

Setup in less than 5 minutes and you are receiving aircraft data near you. Also, it updates itself automatically (you can disable that if you want) so that you are always running at optimal performance. You will also receive the latest features automatically.

What can I do with the mobile app?

FlightBox is an Internet-of-Things (IoT) device, which means easy configuration, and familiar access. The app lets you access all of the FlightBox's features in a way common to your mobile device. That means native maps, native tables, and a pretty & easy to use UI. It also means you can access your FlightBoxes from anywhere you have an Internet connection.
