Connect-ICU: Using Technology to Facilitate Patient and Family-Centered Care, Enhance Communication, and Build Relationships between Patients, their Loved Ones, and the Healthcare Team in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Role overview: You will be asked to participate in one semi-structured interview with a research assistant. The interview will explore your journey through the ICU, as a patient or as a loved one of a patient, and focus on communication and relationship building with the ICU team. The ultimate goal of this project is to leverage communication technology to enhance connection between patients, their loved ones and the healthcare team in the ICU. Communication technology will be used to facilitate shared decision-making, encourage meaningful communication, and develop trusting relationships.
 
Knowledge, experience, skills required: An ideal candidate would have experience as a patient or as a loved one or family member of a patient in the ICU.
 
Time commitment: 1-3 hours
 
Location: Virtual meeting or telephone call
 
What you can expect from staff: The research assistant conducting the interview will ask a series of questions about your journey through the ICU, focusing on communication and relationship building with the ICU team. We will provide as much time as is needed, and a safe space for you to tell your story. You will be able to stop the interview at any time, and the research assistant can provide support and resources to you if the interview raises difficult memories.
