Role overview: The Solutions Patient Partner Review Committee will undertake the Patient-Oriented reviews of the Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation (SHRF) Solutions 2021-2022 grant applications and determine a score via consensus using the Patient-Oriented Level of Engagement Tool (PORLET). The Solutions Program aims to address a timely Saskatchewan health focus area. In partnership, SHRF and SCPOR will fund two Patient-Oriented Research Solutions awards in the focus area of addictions. You do not have to have lived experience in this area to take part.

Upon completion of PORLET training which will be provided by SCPOR, Patient Partners will be asked to review Solutions grant application packages, which will include a lay summary, two Patient Partner Testimonials and a section that addresses the research focus area and how Patient Partners from the team will be engaged. Patient Partners will review the grant applications on their own and then meet as a committee to discuss the applications and make recommendations .

Knowledge, experience, skills required: SCPOR would like to collaborate with individuals who have experience on a health research team, grant application writing and/or grant application review. Patient Partners who have attended Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR) Modules 1 & 2 and Building Research Relationships with Indigenous Communities (BRRIC) training will have a great foundation for this work.

Time commitment: The Solutions Patient Partner Review Committee will meet at least twice (mid-November and mid-January) for 3-4 hours including prep work. The opportunity will begin in November 2021. Initial terms will be approximately 6 months (subject to Terms of Reference) with an opportunity for renewal to review for the Establishment funding program.

What can you expect as a member of the Patient Partner Review Committee?
Patient Partners will be provided with an orientation to SCPOR, Patient-Oriented Research, and training to use the Patient-Oriented Research Level of Engagement Tool (PORLET) in mid-November. SCPOR staff are committed to engage with Patient Partners, hear Patient Partner experiences, and collaborate to ensure meaningful inclusion of diverse voices in Patient-Oriented Research.
