The Landlord Survey - Mood of Investors

In March, Massey University approached Property Brokers to see if we wanted to take on an intern. The Property Management division jumped at the opportunity. And so, we were introduced to a third-year marketing student. We planned to do two projects, one surveying tenants and our first one, this survey.

The project had mutual benefits. As a company, we could better understand investor mindsets and identify any particular trends. For young Fauwaz, he developed a better understanding of researching consumers.

In this survey, we discovered differing generations’ views on climate change and emissions created by landlords’ properties. Our younger generation of landlords demonstrated that they are interested in understanding the carbon footprint of their investment properties. The older generation, however, were not.

All seemed more optimistic about the future though many, predictably, condemned Government policy and how it had made it so much harder to be a landlord.

I would like to state that landlords need more support from the Central Government as the state cannot be the sole provider of rental accommodation in New Zealand.

Finally, I want to acknowledge the great work that young Fauwaz Bin Azhar has done in putting this survey together. I also want to thank Massey University for allowing Property Brokers to work with Fauwaz. Massey University contributes so much to New Zealand, especially to Palmerston North, where our head office is located. We are blessed to have such an institution right on our doorstep.
