"What NC Stands For" Contest

We've got a question for you.  What does North Carolina stand for?  In other words, when you think about our state, what comes to mind?  What would you point out to other people and say, "That's part of what makes North Carolina, North Carolina!"?

We want you to show us!  The Brand North Carolina Project invites you to creatively express what North Carolina means to you in any form you choose.

We are seeking submissions that answer our question using any type of creative expression including but not limited to photography, poetry, song, dance, prose, video, art, or sculpture.   For example, you could submit a photograph or create a dance that represents to you the values, culture, and community of North Carolina.

In April, we are going to kick off a statewide road show to show off what you’ve created.  There will be stops all over North Carolina, from the Mountains to the Piedmont to the Coastal Plain.  Everyone is invited to watch the creators of the best submissions, as judged by a panel of prominent North Carolinians and the brandNC team, present their work in a live competition.

Finals will be held in Raleigh on April 12th.  All are invited to view the entries and celebrate the creativity of our state.

  • This photo was taken one warm evening last fall when a friend and I went on a walk around Elon, North Carolina. The weather was perfect and the setting sun made the field shine like gold!

  • NC stands for walks with my mom around Bass Lake in Blowing Rock, NC. My mom and I have walked around that lake more times than I could ever count. It's a space of tradition, family, health and happiness that we will forever return to year after year.

  • Our state offers a diversity found nowhere else in the US. I have seen my home state change over the decades, and I am still marveled how well our citizens have taken great care in pride in preserving our resources. We are a state to see and be seen!

  • North Carolina is where my mother raised me, and it's where I had to say goodbye to my dad. It's where I've laughed, cried, learned, loved, and surrendered my life to Christ. It's where I grew into the young woman I am today; North Carolina is my home.
