My first attempt at disc golf was several years ago at a local course inside a city park. I went with 2 other friends and none of us had ever played or really knew much about the game. None of us owned discs, so we were going to rent them at the park. Being completely clueless about the game, we decided that we did not need to rent 3 sets of discs. We would only rent 1 set and share them. We rented a single set of discs and I think we each chose which color we liked best. As you can imagine, this was not a good plan and it was obvious even to us after a few throws. Luckily, there were some others on the course who noticed our pathetic attempt to play. They had several sets of discs in their car and were nice enough to lend us 2 other sets to play with. They also walked us through the entire round giving us pointers. They were very generous and helpful to us "newbies".
