My mom is an inspiration because she is such a loving mother. She always takes time to think of others before herself. I am very lucky to have her by my side. My children love to spend time with her. I thank god for being able to have this love in my life.

Mom didn't always give me what I wanted when I was a child. Sometimes it was tough but it taught me to be content. I asked for a vintage green Easy Bake Oven for Christmas 3 years in a row. When I was 10 - I received a set of baking booklets and a promise lessons to use the big stove. She came through on her promise and soon I was baking and cooking for the whole family. Every special day I would bake and decorate a cake for the family- a chocolate cake with mint green frosting every St. Patrick's Day, birthday cakes, cupcakes, muffins with freshly picked berries, and cookies, bars and squares and brownies for school lunches for me and my sisters and brother. When I left home at 18 she bought me a Cuisinart that I use to this day and gave me some of my favorite cookbooks with inscriptions throughout such as; "to my sweet girl", ÿummy ", "remember when you made this with blue icing", to my little cook", "will miss your baking", etc.. I still bake with those cookbooks and booklets. I bake for others too. My mixer and recipes come out so I can contribute to my childrens bake sales at school and church. I also love to decorate cakes for my childrens friend''s birthday parties. I just ask the moms if they would like a gift for your child or can I make them a special, unique, theme cake. I have made Barbie cakes, puppy cakes, pony cakes, Cinderellas carriage cake, Spiderman and mermaid cakes and many others.

Now that I look back I see that you don't always get what you when your mom can see that something else is better. Her lessons, cookbooks and those booklets and that food processor have stood the test of time whereas the Easy Bake Oven would have been garage sale fodder by now. What mom gave me instead has lasted many, many years and is a gift that I have shared with countless others.

She raised me alone and helped shape me to be a good father myself. My son just turned one and I wouldn't have been able to do as good a job as I have been if not for her.

My mom has been a single mom raising two kids for the past 9 years. She is the most dedicated, hard-working, kind and loving person I know. When I was born my mom gave up a job she loved and excelled in to move to Toronto and work for her father; allowing her to work less hours and spend more time raising me. She did several jobs on the side; she created stained glass windows, and had an interior design business. I used to boast how my mom worked three jobs and still made time for me. I also envied her artistic talent. I used to stare in awe at her work and wonder "How does she do that? That's impossible!" My mom was a superhero to me, she could do absolutely anything she put her mind to, and I wanted to be just like her when I grew up. Now, I'm not sure anyone could accomplish such a feat, but I have certainly tried. My mother has influenced all aspects of my life. Inspired by her creativity, I too pursued art and design. Inspired my her determination and optimism, I was able to persevere when life became difficult, and she was always there to support me. Nearly everything I know and hope for in life I got from her. I will raise my kids just like she raised me, and always put them first like she does. I will be kind and generous and loving like her, and one day I hope to be as independent and capable as she is. I've seen her build furniture from scratch and renovate an entire house by herself, so I've got a ways to go...But as much as I'd like to be like her, I know I never completely will be. There is no one like my Mom. She is a unique and self-made woman and I am very proud to be her daughter.
