Our daughter has quadriplegic cerebral palsy and to me the wheelchair heart symbol means freedom to be an active participant in life. Our family mantra is wherever we are Meya will be too. Without her wheelchair we would not be able to take her fishing, out to watch harvest, all the farm related things that our family enjoys. I also feel it is important for society as a whole to see that even though Meya's body does not work well, her mind does and she enjoys the same activities that any seven year old little girl does. That we as a family find joy in life and that Meya's physical disability does not prevent her or us from living a joyful life. It has also been important to us to show people what life looks like when navigating it in a wheelchair. That there are many obstacles that we have to figure out, but that does not stop us from living life with our girl right in the mix of whatever it is we are doing. We feel that we can't become complacent when we have been blessed with the most amazing fighter princess - that fact that she was able to survive being a micro preemie is proof enough to us that we can and will figure out how to help her be the most active participant she can be and let me tell you this girl has a zest for life. So I guess what I am trying to the hardest to impress on others is that loving life and living life is something that everyone has the ability to do, it just may take a bit more ingenuity to figure out how to help Meya to get knee deep in whatever it is we are doing. It is our mission as her parents to make sure she is able to experience all the cool things that kids get to experience, whether it is petting a worm, dipping her toes in a creek, taking a spin on the four wheeler and feeling the wind in her face. We are forever grateful for our Meya's spunk and ability to show others that life is good and meant to be lived to the fullest!
