My name is Lauran. I was born 4/4/01 with AMC & Amyoplasis. An MRI cannot detect skeletal muscle below my neck.During my first 6 weeks, the Drs searched the world for info on my condition. They couldn't find anyone who had knowledge of Amyoplasia (absence of muscle) as severe as my case. They said I am the "textbook case". The Drs didn't think I would live more than 6 months.I fooled them. I was the youngest (under 3) to be trained, locally, to use a power wheelchair. My PT had to video me training with my prototype so the insurance would cove my chair(They didn't believe I could do it). I drive with my chin. My family had a benefit to raise money for a wheelchair accessible van for my transportation.SO many people came to support me,the building couldn't hold them all. I have competed in LA's G.U.M.B.O. Games for track & field, setting the Standards for my events almost every time. Cause I LOVE to roll fast. When I was 8, I had very long hair. I cut it to give to "Locks of Love", for the kids with cancer. So they could be happy. I love music & singing. I have liked being the "only one" with my condition. I AM unique. I love that. Until recently. There is an 8 month old boy with a condition very similar to me. I like that. Someone like ME. I hope I've been leading the way for him. And maybe others to come. I just found 3E a few days ago. I LOVE IT. Because I have the same vision as Annie. I enjoyed reading the description of the FB page. It made me cry because I have thought of the same things (acceptance & diversity) ALL of my life. It's inspiring. A lot of people I meet tell me I inspire them, but they inspire me. To keep on rolling. To keep reaching for my dreams. For me the wheelchair heart means LOVE & compassion for ALL people. It means diversity, hope & peace. Many people have DIFabilities. Sometimes life is a struggle. Sometimes it's frustrating. BUT, I AM HAPPY & I AM GOING TO KEEP ON ROLLING ALONG. Doing things MY way PS: I'd really like to be a winner in this contest, cause I want lots of your merchandise. I want to put stickers EVERYWHERE.
Peace & love to you all,
Lauran Mayeaux
