My story is just a little different. I was ready for certification for 5 years before I could actually sit for the exam. I knew that Certification was a special and important part of my research career and I couldn't wait to take and pass the exam. I decided I would take the exam in March of 1996. However, at the end of 1995 I had a unexpected health issue which caused a brain bleed and required brain surgery and an aneurysm being clipped. There was no way I could study for or take the exam. I took years for me to get the courage up to take the exam, as it also meant driving into Boston and dealing with traffic. Finally my husband surprised me with a driver to and from the test site. I was able to study all the way in and as life would have it, those extra minutes of random reviews where the items most covered in the test that year. I am proud and excited to know and announce, that I am a CCRC and have been one for 15 years. I now encourage my staff to do the same and pay for the costs for them to reach CCRC.
