The definition of the word “hero” is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities, but is that what it truly means? Heroes are not just famous people, for they can be any person, no matter what their status or appearance may be. They are people we look up to for inspiration. These people help us become a better version of ourselves.
If you asked a random person who their hero was, you would probably hear answers like parents, famous people, friends or a significant other. Why are their answers so alike? It is because the connection they have with them. It is how they are able to relate to that person. They dream to be like their hero. They dream to be as great as them. This is what only a few of us know. The real dream is to be as unique as them.
We are all troubled people that are troubled in different ways. Troubled people need inspiration and encouragement. Who gives that inspiration and encouragement to keep us going? It is us who gives those to ourselves. We get it from our heroes who have done a great deed in our amazing lives. We get it from the heroes who never stop helping others.
To prove my statements, I will tell you about my hero, or should I say, heroes. Yes, heroes. Who are my heroes? Everyone that I meet is my hero. They show me that no matter what they are coping with and even though, I do not know their story, they are still able to show that there is a side of them that is bright and optimistic in this burdened world. They taught me that in whatever time I have, I should not stop and give up in reaching my goals. They see their life as one of the hardest challenges they have to face, but they still stop to help others with theirs.
To be a hero, one must learn how to see through other people’s eyes. A hero must know sympathy and empathy. These traits are not difficult to gain or even practice. Being a hero doesn’t mean you have to win battles, make discoveries or receive prizes. It is about being able to understand and be strong for others who cannot do it for themselves. Like a special education teacher, they are able to understand students who have trouble expressing themselves. Like a student, they are able to defend and help students who are in need. These traits seem so easy and so simple, but the hard part is when you do them for others.
The definition of “hero” is a person who is able to show strength for themselves and for others. A hero is willing to do anything to help others. These heroes can come from anywhere and they will never show it in their appearances, instead in their actions. That is what a hero is. We are all heroes.
