In an increasingly globalized world, everyone must be prepared to interact with citizens from many countries and cultures. I first realized this as a Fulbright Fellow to Croatia when I was unsure of how to address ambassadors, government ministers, and higher education administrators. As an assistant professor, I recognized the emerging internationalization movement in colleges and universities of all sizes. I live in a college town that is home to the largest university in the state. Globalization is a driving force in every department including a law school, a school of international affairs, a business school, a school of hospitality as well as many other areas of study. It also has a large ROTC program that graduates many junior military officers every year. Although the university provides outstanding educational and extracurricular programs, being successful in the 21st century requires more than academic expertise. Protocol knowledge provides the structural support to successfully interact in all levels of government, business and as well as general society. As my career continues to develop, my goal is to bring protocol expertise to college students, faculty, administration, staff and businesses. If I received the grand prize of complimentary tuition, I would develop protocol training programs and workshops to present to the higher education market beginning with the institutions in central Pennsylvania. I am confident that my education background and international experiences would further the mission of The Protocol School of Washington.
