My stinkiest moment was when my daughter was training a puppy. She is a college student and she brought him home one weekend. She used puppy pads in her bedroom to help him. Weekend is over, she goes back to school with her puppy. A few weeks later, we start smelling a HORRIBLE smell emanating from her bedroom. We vacuum, wipe down the walls, check the vents, change the sheets, clean out the closet, and STILL the horrible smell continues. We have no idea what it is, and we start to get worried that a mouse or some other creature crawled inside a wall and died (I've heard of it happening to other people). Meanwhile, we continue to clean the room. My husband decides we need to open the vents and check. Nothing. Next we bought a moisture sensor and examined all the walls, in case it's mold. Totally dry- no mold. Now we are really freaking out because it's getting worse every day! Finally my husband regretfully decides we need to start gently tearing out the drywall to see if an animal died (this was our last resort!). I REALLY did not want to tear the walls out of that room, but what other options were there? The very day that we gathered the tools to do this, I told him to let me check one last storage box that I had placed under the bed a few months ago. It had books in it and it was literally the last thing unchecked. I pulled out the box, lifted the lid and almost vomited! YES, we found the smell! We immediately dragged the whole box outside and my husband used a stick to pop the lid off (it smelled that bad, we couldn't get any closer). And right inside, was a mold-covered puppy pad. Turns out my daughter, in the middle of the night, had stuffed it in there so she didn't have to smell it. Intending to retrieve it the next morning, of course she forgot about it and went off on her merry way. By the time we dragged that box outside, the puppy pad had percolated and cooked and had created the WORST smell ever!!!!! We ended up throwing out the whole box of books. Would you believe even after all that, the room still smelled a little bit? We put a Squelch in there and it's really helped. We actually rubbed it on the wall, on the bed frame, and on her bookshelf. It has really improved the smell in that room by removing the odor. This was the stinkiest moment of my life, and I hope to NEVER repeat it. THANK YOU
