Hello, my name is Chris Wren and “FingerPaint” is my submission to the Auggies for the 2014 AWE conference. This submission is for the “best new software” category within the “mobile” sub-category. This application came about as I was developing a touch library of gestures and interactions for myself. It evolved into a painting program, and it didn’t take long for me to find ways to make it both a 3D and an AR painting application. You can paint in any color you want, with up to 5 fingers at once. You can make your own palettes, paint in 2D and 3D, manipulate 3D Objects, and you can attach your painting/sculptures and 3D objects to AR Targets which then can be mounted or displayed to be admired from 360 degrees. You can write messages to people or just create cool 3D sculptures. I included the ability to paint rigidbodies as well as stationary paint blobs, and these two types interact in a really cool way. The stationary paint acts as a scaffolding for the rigidbodies and you can create some really cool physics interactions and sculptures. You can size the brush to any size you want, it works by pinching, and you will see the brushsize value in the “current color” orb in the bottom right. This size affects both the stationary and the rigidbody painting. Painting abstract things is cool, but with a little practice you can paint some very realistic 3D objects, and you can even trace images (color by numbers). While the feature set is thick already, additional features planned are: opacity slider, eraser, rb spawner, online multiplayer, cloud based target data, markerless, instant tracking (3D),GPS positioning of artwork, User assigned targets and locations for artwork. Enjoy – Chris Wren - wc.wren@yahoo.com - http://crevver6.wix.com/chriswrenar

  • With smart glasses becoming more and more popular, and augmented reality applications serving as the basic interface for such devices- all that seems to be missing from this equation is an easy and natural way to interact with the content.
We see use of “inherited” interaction tools such as remote controllers, touch panels (not direct interaction with the content) and voice control (not usable in noisy environment and inappropriate in quite public environments…), but so far we haven’t seen use of the most natural and direct interaction method for such devices and content- which is gesture based control.
eyeSight presents touch-free, direct interaction for augmented reality applications on smart glasses. Allowing use of small, discrete gestures as well as direct pointing to interact with content and features on the device. Using the existing camera already integrated on the smart glasses - eyeSight’s 100% software based solution (SDK), allows users to easily swipe right/ left to open or dismiss notifications, use direct pointing to interact with location based content and much more.
eyeSight demonstrates this touch-free solution on the Lumus smart glasses.
    About eyeSight
eyeSight (http://eyesight-tech.com/) is the leading provider of software based gesture recognition technology, offering a simple and natural interaction for users with digital devices. Mobile Phones, Tablets, PCs, TVs, Smart Glasses and various other devices can be controlled touch-free with a swipe of a hand or point of a finger eyeSight holds the largest number of successful device launches in the market, Tier1 manufacturers such as; OPPO, Lenovo, Toshiba, Hisense, Phillips and more have launched devices with eyeSight’s technology inside. Moreover, eyeSight has valuable partnerships with; AMD, ARM, Nvidia, Omnivision and more.

  • Shangoo is a very simple app that shows weather forecast using Augmented Reality, its distinctive qualities are: the innovative user interface and the way the AR experience is implemented. Regarding the latter feature the developer wanted to show that even just using the 'old' gyro-compass tracking, a nice but convincing AR experience is still possible despite the advanced tracking methods available today...the point is: if you can do something easily then just do it and do it the easy way, that's what Shangoo is all about.
Regarding the user interface the developer wanted to let the user change the time of the day using a 'clock' metaphor, that's the rationale behind the circular interface (hint: try to tap and drag the little dot all the way around to change the day forward/backward).
Finally, social sharing is available via Twitter or Facebook: just rotate the device in landscape to show the 'capture & share' interface, take a photo and share it.

Please download it from the AppStore or Google Play (NOTE: the full version is free for a limited time).

  • OrigaMIDI is the world’s only multi-dimensional MIDI controller and Augmented Reality visualizer that lets you control your electronic performance with printed pattern designs.

    How it works:

    • Print our pattern designs on a regular printer or order them from our store.

    • Follow simple instructions to fold them (optional).

    • Control any MIDI capable device through your Mac or PC with paper and enhance the audience’s visual experience with our AR visualizer that feels like magic.

The markers can be scaled to any proportion and printed on anything, so you can control your set by conducting a movement. Humans have always danced to music, but OrigaMIDI controls the music by dance.

OrigaMIDI was first conceived at a San Francisco hackathon by Valentin Burov, Lev Burov, and Natalia Ricalde, who by day run Scientific Humanities. OrigaMIDI is available for all iOS devices at the App Store, and we invite you to visit us at www.origaMIDI.com.

As gaming evolves, so too does our demand for more fluid interaction. We no longer live in a time where gaming experience can be limited to the dimensions of our screen. Leveraging gyroscope technology, we engineered a virtual gaming environment which surrounds the in-game user, rather than merely rendering the space directly in front of them. This environment offers gamers a 360 degree sphere of control. By physically turning with their iPad device, the on-screen view will follow the gamer's rotation, allowing a panoramic scene. In doing so, the in-game environment collapses the standard user frame.

  • The Virtual Mazda3 App allows people to replace their existing Mazda with a fully scaled virtual Mazda3 - giving them a preview of the car right in their driveway, before it hit the market. This app is the first commercial application to fully scale a virtual object over an existing 3D object. Cutting AR free of the print triggers or complicated mapping that prevented experiences like this from being possible. App users can view models and features, change colors, capture videos, photos and share with friends. They can also create a tabletop 3D model that you can explore in 360 degrees wherever you are.

In this experience, the user need only open the hood of her car, recognize the engine using visual search and watch as the software isolates components and overlays relevant information on top of it, such as how to refill coolant or where to check the oil.

Far more convenient than checking a manual, this app streamlines the information flow and ensures that the user accesses the exact information she needs to solve the problem.

  • We are using AR to enrich our dominical publication. We are using AR to extend the information in the paper publication. We put, over the images videos, images and audios that make the content plus attractive and accessible to people. Our strategy is to arrive to more public like young people (with the attractive of technology and multimedia content) or like people who has visual deficiencies (so as they can listen the content instead of read it). We use the Aurasma platform to achieve this strategy. We are the first and only religious institution that uses AR to communicate and improve the experience of reading a spiritual publication. We deliver every week around 54.000 exemplars of this publication.
